How Portage CyberTech's innovative intranet solution helped connect 120K employees across 4 continents
Alimentation Couche-Tard (ACT) is one of the largest company-owned convenience store chains in the world, ACT partnered with Portage CyberTech to help Inner Circle, a global intranet spanning 4 continents and connecting 120,000 employees across 15,000 organizations, the ambitious project would make up the world’s largest and most complex Drupal intranet.
The Challenge
Previously, ACT's newly acquired brands all had their own internal systems for managing internal communications. Following the acquisitions, ACT had to consolidate numerous intranets into a single system which addressed the following criteria:
- Create communities for teams, departments, and projects with a standardized security and approvals process for managing and moderating content
- A rewards and recognition platform where employees can assign points, badges, or digital "high-fives" to their peers
- A central point of reference for all project documentation and knowledge areas such as store policies, HR forms and procedures, etc.
- Employee-generated content area to give status updates, share links and files (images, documents, embedded videos) and highlight team wins and successes
The Solution
Portage CyberTech’s mission was to create a global intranet solution that would allow Alimentation Couche-Tard employees, franchise operators, and others to access a single global solution reflecting a consistent brand image. The benefits of the consolidated platform would help improve communication, establish best practices, encourage knowledge sharing, and standardize operation support across stores worldwide.
Portage worked with ACT to incorporate a number of collaborative features to the platform to encourage user engagement.
The Results
On the pilot launch, nearly 6,000 ACT employees in North America used the Drupal Intranet system. The number grew exponentially after the system’s full launch, garnering over 100,000 users across North America and Europe.
Between June 12, 2017, and July 25, 2017, the site had more than 58,000 sessions, over 290,000 page views, and an average session duration of 7 minutes and 43 seconds. With a final worldwide roll-out in late 2018, Couche-Tard is continuously growing to be a top brand focused on providing a unified and engaging employee experience across the globe.
Portage was thrilled to have been chosen to provide an effective intranet that helps align and engage ACT’s internal teams through secure knowledge-sharing and communication, and are extremely proud to be part of their continued success.
The successful delivery of this project was carried out by OPIN Digital before its acquisition by Portage CyberTech in 2021.
